What You Can Do

It may seem that the only way to help foster children is through direct adoption, but that is not the case! There are several, if not many, ways to make adoptees’ lives much happier. A person can do an infinite number of things in their life and if you want to learn more about adoption then below is the three E’s on what YOU can do to help.

Table of Contents

Establish

Establish a good foundation on the adoption processes found in your country. Most people don’t understand how formal adoption really works. Familiarize yourself with statistics and common issues found within the system. You may use social media to your advantage and follow adoption professionals or organizations that provide up to date and relevant information that you may need. Recognize the beauty in adoption when done correctly and legally.

Engage

Find and join an adoption related charity or organization to volunteer or help with, fundraisers are common among those who need help with their adoption finances, you may engage in these by helping promote or coordinate them. Look for any possible opportunities to get involved in your community, each interaction you make is a chance to set out a positive example out of adoption. Stay updated on adoption news. Adoption laws vary by country, learn to spot any issues on the regulations that hinders the processes. You may help alleviate these in any help you can provide with, whether big or small.

Encourage

If you have access to a wide community like your local church, school, or town community, encourage others to join the conversation with you! Fun fact, the church is actually a good place to share about adoption related information. It’s a place where a lot of people are getting counseling sessions from their local church leaders or church groups.)

Connect with people or groups, working with individuals who share the same interests as you may become easier with more resources at hand. It’ll be even greater to have the support of other groups who deal with similar issues (e.g., if you are in a group that advocates for adoption awareness you might want to consider looking for people who tackles issues on child abuse, child neglect, poverty, etc.)
